A phrase is a block of bars a track is built from, usually 8, 16 or 32. Electronic music changes at phrase boundaries, so a mix that starts on one keeps both tracks structurally in step.

Why it matters

Phrasing is the difference between a transition that sounds intentional and one that sounds early. Drop the incoming track a few bars off the phrase and both arrangements fight — two breakdowns arrive at different moments, and no amount of EQ hides it.
