Sweep

A sweep moves a filter across a sound so its brightness travels — up towards a moment or down away from one. It works as an arrangement element inside a track and as a live move on a mixer.

A sweep announces itself, so spend it where you want the room to look — not on every transition.

Sweeping up through a phrase and releasing on the boundary is the standard move, and it works because the gesture and the arrangement resolve together. The failure mode is using it as a default: a set where every change is a filter sweep reads as one trick, and the room stops responding to it. Why it matters

A sweep is the most audible thing a DJ can do to a record, which makes it both useful and easy to overuse. It tells a room that something is changing without any change having happened yet, so it buys attention while the real work is still in progress.

It is also the fastest way to remove a record from a mix without touching the fader. Sweeping a high-pass upward strips the low end and then the body away, leaving something thin enough to sit under the incoming track until it can be cut entirely.

What is the difference between a sweep and a riser?+
