The mix rules

  • Perfect harmony — same Camelot code (e.g. 8A → 8A). Layer the intros, no clash possible.
  • Tonal shift (A ↔ B) — same number, opposite letter. Mood pivots minor → major.
  • Simple mix ±1 — one step around the wheel. Subtle energy lift or ease, both safe.
  • Energy boost ±2 — two steps, same letter. Stronger move, pair with a small BPM bump.
  • Tritone ±6 — half-octave jump. Maximum drama; treat as a planned moment.

Reading the wheel

Outer ring = major keys (B). Inner ring = minor keys (A). Adjacent numbers are a fifth apart on the circle of fifths. Same number across rings shares all seven pitches (relative major / minor pair).

What this cheat sheet is for

Most cheat sheets online give you a wheel image and call it done. This one bakes in the lookup table too — every key’s safe matches and energy shifts, side by side, so you don’t need to do the wheel-walking math in your head while you’re prepping a set or playing live.
